Young Adult Programs

Demi Johnson became the Young Adult Librarian in 2004. Under her care, “The Den,” as the teen area of the library is called, has grown and blossomed. Circulation and usage has increased every year. The space, itself, is redecorated with café tables and comfortable seating. Teen activities include the very first library-sponsored Dance Dance Revolution program in Iowa. Guitar Hero, another interactive video game, has also been added. The annual Teen Summer Library Program is more than a reading program. Past events have included a writing contest, a film your own movie contest, Open Mic Night and henna tattoos.  Often available in the teen area are opportunities to make cards, book marks, book journals, bracelets and other various art projects. Students continue to contribute to our collection of teen produced music videos and 6 word memoirs.  The summer program ends with a drawing for those who have participated. Recent prizes have been an ipod, a digital camera, a portable dvd player and gift cards
