Adult Programs
Vivien Hansen has worked at the Humboldt Public Library since 1976. She has been presenting successful adult programs monthly for the past several years. She has partnered with Iowa Central Community College, Iowa State University Extension Office, Humanities Iowa and Iowa Workforce Development to produce free, quality programs, such as women's self-defense, organizing a job search, stress management, Norwegian folklore and many others. She has helped to launch two book clubs that meet monthly: Book Chat and the Tuesday Evening Book Club. Vivien also coordinates loans from community members for the library's display case, with different displays appearing monthly. Past displays have featured Norwegian nisses (gnomes), antique needlework tools and patterns, 4-H fair exhibits, and collections of all kinds. If you have a collection that you would like to share, contact Vivien at 332-1925 or email director@humboldtpubliclibrary.com.

Young Adult Programs
Deanna Hendren became the Young Adult Librarian in 1999. Under her care, "The Den," as the teen area of the library is called, has grown and blossomed with an expanded nonfiction collection geared toward teen interests, comfortable floor-level seating, and a fresh paint job that sports a blue sky and fluffy clouds. Activities sponsored over the past year have included a library sleepover, with videos, games and scrapbooking, Teen Read Week, and a successful summer reading program ending with a pool party at the city pool. The Teen Advisory Board meets every month during the school year.
