NEWS FLASH!

CHECK OUT EBOOKS FROM THE LIBRARY
TO READ ON YOUR KINDLE

You can now check out eBooks from your library and read them on your Kindle or Kindle
mobile app! Most NEIBORS eBooks are now compatible with Kindle, and the process will seem familiar to NEIBORS and Kindle users.

“We’ve been waiting for the eBooks that we offer through NEIBORS to be available to our patrons with Kindles and the Kindle app on their mobile devices, and we’re excited that even more people will be able to make use of the downloadable eBooks,” said Library Director Nikki Ehlers.

You will need an Amazon account to download to a Kindle or Kindle app, but you won’t need
a credit card—just an e-mail address to create an account. If you already have an Amazon
account and have been purchasing Kindle books, it will look familiar to you. Look for eBooks that have “Kindle Book” as an option on the NEIBORS website, check them out as usual, but instead of “Download” you’ll see a “Get for Kindle” button, which will take you to Amazon where you can “Get library book” and select the Kindle or app device to which you want to deliver the book.

Check out eBooks and audiobooks on the NEIBORS website: http://neibors.lib.overdrive.com

All you need is your library card!

FYI: The HPL even has a Kindle that you can try using before purchasing one.
It can't be checked out, but stop in and give it a try before you buy!

FREEGAL MUSIC
IS NOW AT THE HPL!

What is Freegal Music?

Patrons of the Humboldt Public Library are now able to download
three Sony Music tracks in the MP3 format each week at no cost.
The downloads are all in the MP3 format with no DRM.
This service will work with any MP3 player, including the iPod,
and can be loaded into iTunes. It works on both PCs and Macs.

There are thousands of artists, tens of thousands of albums,
and hundreds of thousands of songs. The Freegal site has over
100 genres of music and is rich in many of them. The content is
based upon a license with Sony Music Entertainment,
owner of 54 different music labels. You can read more about Sony
and its artists at www.sonymusic.com. And, new music is added daily!

Login at Freegal Music

Just click on the freegal music icon directly above or at the top of this page.
At the login page, just enter your HPL library card number
and your PIN. Your PIN is the last 4 digits of your
library card number. Beginning your musical journey is that simple!

Download Limit

Current limits are set at three downloads per week.
You will be able to keep track of your downloads in the upper
right corner of the site. Every song has a sample clip that
you can listen to before you download.

Your counter will set back to zero each week, Monday morning.
Then, you can download three more tunes during the new week.

Click and Save

When you're ready to download a track, click the "Download Now" link,
select "Save" at the prompt, and designate where you want to
save the song. Anytime you click on the "Download Now" link,
even if you cancel the download, the download counts
toward your weekly allotment.

Searching

Use the Smart Search box for suggestions when you know
the name of the album, artist, or song. As you type into the search box,
a list of possible artist names, track names, or album names
drop down from the search tool. Click on one of the suggestions
to access tracks from just that artist. If you type in a word and hit enter
without selecting a suggestion, the search results will include
anything that has that word in the track, name, or album.

Use the Advanced Search to search by composer, or genre,
as well as by artist, song, or album.

Trouble Finding Your Band in the Artist Search Box?

Find bands that begin with "The" in their name,
alphabetized under the letter "T."

Recent Downloads

Once in a while, your Internet connection may be interrupted
or time out and you might experience an incomplete
or problem download. Freegal Music allows you to download
previously downloaded songs again, without using
up one of your weekly downloads.

Questions or Problems

If you have any questions or problems,
please contact Demi at the HPL at 332-1925.

The Humboldt Public Library, in partnership with Transparent Language (Nashua, NH) and Recorded Books (Prince Frederick, MD), is pleased to announce the introduction of Byki® Online Library Edition, a powerful new online language-learning system designed specifically for use by the patrons of public libraries.

Byki, short for “Before You Know It,” is a rapid learning system employing spaced interval repetition. The Byki learning method takes users through a series of simple steps to memorize words and phrases in a new language, including their meanings and proper pronunciation, in the shortest possible time.

Available for learning over 70 languages, library patrons are able to access the Byki Online system from inside or outside of the library, via the web browser on Windows and Mac computers.  Users will have a variety of high quality learning options that build listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills. In addition, Byki includes Advanced Pronunciation Analysis to help users perfect their pronunciation skills. Individual progress tracking and assessment tests help identify areas for improvement and move users in the right direction.

In addition to Byki Online’s advanced learning tools, users will have access to an array of online language and cultural resources including one click access to Facebook and Twitter language communities as well as Byki language Blogs featuring a collection of articles covering the language and the culture that surrounds it. Byki Online is designed to be very low maintenance and easy to use.

The following link will provide you with useful information about Byki: http://www.recordedbooks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=rb.bykionline_lib_all

You will need to contact the libary to create your account and get your own personal User Name and Password. Once that's done, click on the icon below to begin your program.
